Procedures for Medically Excused Physical Education Students

Students may be excused for 1 class by their parent/guardian or one week by the school nurse. If a student is excused for more than 5 school days, then that student needs a Doctor's note to be excused. This is handled through the nurse's office.

When a Doctor excuses a student, a Physician' Referral form needs to be filled out by them (click on the following link- Physician' Referral form). The doctor lists what activities/exercises that the student can participate in. This information will be used by the teacher to set up an individual program. This will be established with the student, teacher and Director of Physical Education. This program will account for the 40% participation grade, the remainder of the grade is, 30% attitude, skill, effort, 20% tests, 10% notebook. Some individual programs that have existed in the past are: weight training, walking programs, swimming at a local pool, research projects, notebook projects, academic packets, and lists of exercises to be done by the student for rehabilitation. All students should attend their Physical Education classes to receive instructions, handouts, and lessons.

Students that are not on the restricted list or who do not have a written note from the nurse will receive a zero for each class period they do not participate.
